Hidden Winch Mount for Discovery II

I've had alot of people inquire about how I mounted my Winch and relocated the Solenoid control box. So, I took some pics to show how I did it. I took these after the fact, so unfortunately this isn't step by step, but will give you the general idea on how it's done. If you have any questions just ask.

My Winch is a Warn XD9000. I was having trouble with the original solenoid box, so I got an Albright Solenoid used on some SuperWinches. Also I got the Superwinch Three-Pin Remote Control Socket (90-22115), and the Superwinch Heavy-Duty Aluminum Remote Control (8855).

Here is what my 2001 Disco II looks all finished. I installed a DAP Hidden/Discreet Winch mount and cut my bumper to fit around the Winch and Mount.

I cut a little section from under the bumper to access the Winch's Clutch. My hands are thin enough to reach, bigger hands might not.

Here is a close up of the Grill. I installed the Three-Pin Remote Control Socket in the grill for ease of connecting the Remote.

I mounted the Albright Solenoid in the Battery compartment by the factory jack. Ofcourse I had to extend the wires from the Winch and Three-Pin Remote Control Socket to the Albright Solenoid. I was able to use the two 72" #2 battery cables that came with the Winch and two 52" #2 battery cables, these were just long enough for the job. I used 16 guage wire to connect the Three-Pin Remote Control Socket to the Albright Solenoid.

I tried to arrange and zip-tie the cables and wires out of the way for as clean a look as I good. With the battery cover on, everything is hidden and out of the way.

I marked the Solenoid for ease of connecting the wires. I connected the #2 cables from the Winch to A, F1, F2 on the Solenoid. Then a #2 Positive cable from the Solenoid to the Battery and 16 guage Negative wire from the Solenoid to the Ground on the vehicle's body. From the Three-Pin Remote Control Socket I connected the 16 guage wires to the Positive, In, and Out on the Solenoid.
